Bread Maker Blackcurrant Jam

Bread Maker Blackcurrant Jam

Jake Price |

this hassle free jam recipe lets the Bread Maker do the work for you, using the jam preset to stir boil & set a delicious blackcurrant jam. Blackcurrants are naturally high in pectin, so this one sets wonderfully with a deep & tangy flavour.

Serves 6

Ingredients
500g blackcurrants, stalks removed
450g granulated or caster sugar
1tbsp lemon juice

Method
1. Add all your ingredients directly into the break maker pan.
2. Fit the pan into your Bread Maker & select the jam programme. Close the lid, then press start.
3. Let the machine mix, heat & stir the fruit & sugar automatically until it reaches setting point. This usually takes around 70 minutes.
4. Once the programme has finished, carefully remove the pan using oven gloves as the name will be very hot. Ladle the jam straight into jars while still hot.
5. Seal the jars with lids immediately & leave to cool completely at room temperature before sorting. You’ll hear a satisfying pop as the lids seal!

Notes
Blackcurrants are naturally rich in pectin, so there's no need for jam sugar or added pectin here, plain granulated or caster sugar sets perfectly well.
Once cooked, jam will seem quite runny while warm and will thicken further as it cools, so don't panic and run a second cycle too hastily.
Sterilise your jars by washing in hot soapy water, then drying in a low oven for 10 minutes before filling.
Stored in a sterilised, sealed jar, this jam will keep in the fridge for up to 3 months, or a few weeks once opened.
